Owners of Rochester Building and Damp Buy Derelict Premises in Margate

Rochester Building and Damp owners Martin Sykes and Emma Page have acquired a derelict seafront property in Cliftonville, Margate, to serve as their new business headquarters.
Originally a historic marine joinery workshop, the building was bought for storage by a local rice and grain importer in the 1970s, before falling into disuse in the early 1990s after the owner’s passing.

Following a protracted legal dispute involving a London based developer, the property was auctioned earlier this month, presenting Martin and Emma with the perfect opportunity.

Their vision is to transform the site into a dedicated hub for trade and DIY damp-proofing supplies, along with a front desk for expert advice and survey bookings.
This exciting project reflects their commitment to expanding services in Thanet, where they relocated after securing a long-term flood damage contract with Thanet Council.

Despite the move, Rochester Building and Damp maintains a strong presence in Medway, thanks to their trusted colleague, PDA-accredited surveyor and contractor Daniel McLean.

Refurbishment of the new premises will begin in January, with completion targeted towards the end of 2025. Stay tuned for updates as this historic property gets a new lease on life !
